"Another 'biggy' today presenting the first real undulations of any note. Starting in Alderley, the landscape quickly changed from farmland to woodland and with the first ascent completed fairly early on we spent all day relishing the flat and dreading the hills! The route descends to Wotton (beautiful alms houses and tiny chapel - well worth a visit) then ascends to the Tyndale Monument, built to commemorate William Tyndale, translator of the bible into English. The views here across to the Severn are marvellous and can be improved even more by climbing lots of steps to the top of the tower. Sad to report we copped out of that and ate lunch in a warm but howling gale at the base.
On to North Nibley which sports an amusing road sign to Waterley Bottom, then more climbing up through the woods to Stinchcombe Golf Course. Either Rosie was bored with being on her own after yesterday or she was starting to show signs of slowing down. At the top we treated ourselves to a little bench rest and she promptly went to sleep for 10 minutes and awoke a new dog!
The final uphill section takes you to the top of Cam Peak where the view is tremendous. On Easter Day a cross is carried to the top and there are hard boiled egg rolling races - it looks nearly as deadly as cheese rolling at Cooper's Hill!
We went for tea with Peter and Marjorie Moncrieff, friends of mum and dad, in Coaley. Peter has done a fantastic job fund raising for us through his male voice choir and thanks to his funds I think we shall probably double our original total!"
